Excellent Results for Prelims in JC Economics
It has been a while since the Prelims exam and our students are finally taking their A Level exams this upcoming week. It’s been a long preparation for our students. How well prepared are they for Economics exam?
We would like to share some Prelims results of some of our achievers where they demonstrated outstanding improvement to an A grade for Economics while some went on to achieved B or C grade. Do note that 90% of these students were either doing badly in the subject with either U, S or E grade but went on to overcome the challenges to achieve the results today. Well done to our students!
Some of our students have been failing the subject but also managed to pass for the very first time in Prelims. Well done in catching up and not be held back by their past performances!
Our Dean’s List star tutor Ms Foo has been reviewing students’ exam scripts for her students since end September on top of her busy teaching schedule where she teaches daily. As much as Ms Foo is overwhelmed by the volume of scripts she needs to review, that doesn’t stop Ms Foo from doing what has been regarded as her signature over the 16 years she has been teaching - putting down her comments against her students’ answers so that students know what went wrong with their answers: why can’t they use certain concepts for some questions, what went wrong with their expression when writing out their answers, what led to the wrong question analysis and hence off focused answers etc.
Ms Foo spends time giving comments to her students as she believes that the way to improve in the subject is by identifying what went wrong through their own mistakes. Afterall, each student is unique in terms of the mistakes they make and so need to pay more attention to particular areas of concern. And true enough, students who learnt from their mistakes after reviewing Ms Foo’s comments, applying the correct techniques and content taught during lessons, do see improvement in their grades. Our students’ results speaks much for itself.
From our students’ Prelims results, it is very clear that the past do not equate the future. Doing badly in the past does not mean that they will continue to do badly in the subject. Their Prelims results is indeed a much needed boost to their confidence before the long awaited A Level exams which they have been preparing for. We are confident that our students will stay consistent and do well for Economics in A Level exams.
Wishing our JC2 students the very best of luck for their A Levels exams! Ms Foo will continue to see her students to help prepare for the Economics exams. Yes, Ms Foo stays with her students to the very end.
Our JC1 students completed their Promotional Exams in end September and lessons are temporarily suspended since then so that they can focus on their Project Work (PW) while we put our focus on preparing our JC2 students for the A Level exams. We are happy to receive some pleasant surprises from our JC1 students who did well in Economics in their Promotional Exam! Well done!
Special mention of some students who joined econsLAB for Economics tuition in mid July which is just 2.5 months before the Promotional Exam - managed to achieve a vast jump from U to B grade! Some students joined earlier in April and also managed to achieve a B grade otherwise C. Not forgetting a student who scored A grade and has been offered to take H3 Economics! Ms Foo is extremely happy for her students who showed such great improvement. It is to be noted that those students scoring Bs and Cs were previously failing the Economics with U grade prior to tuition at econsLAB with our Dean’s List star tutor Ms Foo.
Understanding of content forms the basic foundation for students to do well, followed by exam techniques such as question analysis and answer structure. Not forgetting Ms Foo’s constant reminder to her students to include “scope and depth” in their answers. Applying what is taught by Ms Foo is key to seeing improvement in students’ results, not forgetting students’ hard work in studying.
Besides detailed teaching of content and class discussions of questions ranging from essays and CSQ (only CSQ for H1), timed practices are incorporated during lessons to track students’ progress through gauging their ability to answer the questions with accuracy within the stipulated time. Class participation plays an important part in enhancing students’ learning. Ms Foo also review her students’ school exams scripts (e.g. MYE), providing constructive feedback on students’ answers so that they will be able to identify their weaknesses and work towards improving their grade. And true enough, our students’ excellent Promotional results speaks for itself.
