Improvement in students' Prelims grade

It has been a great week so far of receiving some really good news from our students who showed improvement in their recent Prelims!

We see most students improved by at least 3 grades up from U to D. This result is very encouraging especially for students who have been working hard on the subject and finally passed! Our students are delighted in their improvement. Well done indeed! Consistency is key.

For students practising questions on their own on top of attending our lessons (online or offline), Ms Foo’s advice has always been for students to generate the answers on their own first before referring to the answer key given out by their school etc. It is advisable for them to clarify with their school teachers or Ms Foo to confirm the links. The answers in the answer key is not 100% accurate and so should not be fully relied on. The better students with good content knowledge will be able to detect the gaps in the provided answer and seek clarification just to make sure. Taking note that content knowledge is built over time.

Ms Foo reviews her students’ school test and exam scripts to identify her students’ mistakes so that students understand why they shouldn’t bring in certain content or how they can improve their links or structure for better clarity and flow. It is indeed time-consuming to review the scripts but it is worthwhile if it helps students see improvement in their grades. Ms Foo also reviews timed practices done with her students. This has been Ms Foo’s style which has proved effective so far.

Ms Foo does not believe in spoon-feeding her students. One of her students requested for full answers because this student needs help with construing the points. Although this is not Ms Foo’s usual style, she decided to try it out for a few sessions if this could really help students. The results is mixed. This student continues to score the same grade (above average), some students improved whereas majority see deterioration in their grades. Why? Because students paid less attention during lessons knowing that answer sheet will be given to them. This defeats the purpose of learning. Students compared and agreed that taking down notes proved more effective for them. Hence, Ms Foo reverted to her original style of teaching which she maintained over the 15 years.

We are delighted with our students’ improvement and will continue to provide the support needed till the final exams.

Wish to join our lessons? Do drop us message or text. Hope to see you soon.

Excellent improvement for our Year One student!

EconsLab is famed for our quick turnover in students’ grades.

But, this comes with hard work put in by our students as well. Afterall, it takes two hands to clap - our star tutor Ms Foo imparts her knowledge plus our students vigorously apply the techniques taught to them. All done through Ms Foo’s lectures covering the content along with guided practices in class.

We are pleased to share one recent success story. A student joined us in mid July with a U grade in school exam much demoralized. Ms Foo’s guidance along with the student’s hard work helped bump his grade from U to D in his recent graded test! That’s a three grade jump - an excellent improvement indeed within such short period of time of 1.5 months.

We are very happy for students who show such great improvement and motivate our students to continue to work hard. Their success also provides a source of motivation and inspiration to other students who are progressing in the path to excelling Economics.

Drop us a text or message at 9723 5149 to find out more about our tuition classes. Look forward to seeing you soon.

School Tests and Class Practice Scripts review

The key to excelling in JC Economics and IB Economics is to know what went wrong in students’ answer. At EconsLab, we help you uncover your weaknesses and discover your strengths. We value-add our students with complimentary review of students’ school tests/exams and class practices.

Comments are made on students’ work based on why concepts used by students may be theoretically correct but irrelevant based on the question context, incorrect links or expression, missing gaps in formulating the links etc. The comments are meant to help students identify and understand why these are mistakes and should not be repeated to support improvement in students’ answer presentation to ace the subject.

Online Lessons for JC Economics & IB Economics (LIVE)

Need help in JC Economics or IB Economics?

Now that centre-based tuition has been suspended by the government until further notice in view of Covid-19, students might want to consider seeking help in the Economics via online tuition (Live) with our Dean’s List Top Economics Star Tutor. This is a convenient option for students too as it saves them from traveling to the tuition place.

Not to worry about the quality of teaching as it will be delivered the same way as it is in classroom setting. There will still be ample interaction between the tutor and students online as each session is restricted to only 8 students. Small group size enables students to ask question at any point in time.

Online lessons to replace centre-based learning

Following the latest ruling announced by the government to suspend all centre-based tuitions, EconsLab is replacing its current lessons held at the premise to online lessons.

We would like to assure all students and parents that the quality of teaching online will not differ from that delivered in classroom setting. Detailed lectures will still be delivered and guidance provided during question practices.

This arrangement will commence on 26 March 2020, 11.59pm and end on 30 April 2020 as announced by the government. Any changes is subject to further announcement by the government.

We will be in touch with the affected students soon to help them with the necessary arrangement to do the online lessons.

Economics Prelims Scripts Review

It’s the time of the year that our Dean’s List Super Star Tutor Ms Foo review Prelims scripts for her students.

While most students are still waiting for their results as Prelims just ended not too long, some students who had their exams prior to September holidays got back their results. In particular, a U-grader student showed vast improvement with a 3-grade jump to D ! Well done to this student and also the rest who improved !

Would you like to have your Economics exam scripts reviewed? It is important to identify why it is wrong to bring in certain Economics concepts even if you have elaborated them well. This is because that concepts might not even be relevant to answering the question. And so, have you analyzed the questions correctly then? Why not? Or is it more like a case of not knowing how to elaborate your point even though it is relevant?

Let Ms Foo give you a complimentary review of your exam scripts to uncover the issues you have been facing. It is not useful to just read the answer key provided to you to know what should have been the correct answer. In addition, it is important to understand why it is wrong to use certain concepts, why it is incorrect to use certain points in your answers although theoretically correct and well elaborated.

You could very well be the next one to see a huge jump in your grades in the A Levels exams which is just a month away. Contact Ms Foo now for a crash session.

Hope to see you soon!
