Improvement in students' Prelims grade

It has been a great week so far of receiving some really good news from our students who showed improvement in their recent Prelims!

We see most students improved by at least 3 grades up from U to D. This result is very encouraging especially for students who have been working hard on the subject and finally passed! Our students are delighted in their improvement. Well done indeed! Consistency is key.

For students practising questions on their own on top of attending our lessons (online or offline), Ms Foo’s advice has always been for students to generate the answers on their own first before referring to the answer key given out by their school etc. It is advisable for them to clarify with their school teachers or Ms Foo to confirm the links. The answers in the answer key is not 100% accurate and so should not be fully relied on. The better students with good content knowledge will be able to detect the gaps in the provided answer and seek clarification just to make sure. Taking note that content knowledge is built over time.

Ms Foo reviews her students’ school test and exam scripts to identify her students’ mistakes so that students understand why they shouldn’t bring in certain content or how they can improve their links or structure for better clarity and flow. It is indeed time-consuming to review the scripts but it is worthwhile if it helps students see improvement in their grades. Ms Foo also reviews timed practices done with her students. This has been Ms Foo’s style which has proved effective so far.

Ms Foo does not believe in spoon-feeding her students. One of her students requested for full answers because this student needs help with construing the points. Although this is not Ms Foo’s usual style, she decided to try it out for a few sessions if this could really help students. The results is mixed. This student continues to score the same grade (above average), some students improved whereas majority see deterioration in their grades. Why? Because students paid less attention during lessons knowing that answer sheet will be given to them. This defeats the purpose of learning. Students compared and agreed that taking down notes proved more effective for them. Hence, Ms Foo reverted to her original style of teaching which she maintained over the 15 years.

We are delighted with our students’ improvement and will continue to provide the support needed till the final exams.

Excellent improvement for our Year One student!

EconsLab is famed for our quick turnover in students’ grades.

But, this comes with hard work put in by our students as well. Afterall, it takes two hands to clap - our star tutor Ms Foo imparts her knowledge plus our students vigorously apply the techniques taught to them. All done through Ms Foo’s lectures covering the content along with guided practices in class.

We are pleased to share one recent success story. A student joined us in mid July with a U grade in school exam much demoralized. Ms Foo’s guidance along with the student’s hard work helped bump his grade from U to D in his recent graded test! That’s a three grade jump - an excellent improvement indeed within such short period of time of 1.5 months.

We are very happy for students who show such great improvement and motivate our students to continue to work hard. Their success also provides a source of motivation and inspiration to other students who are progressing in the path to excelling Economics.

Look forward to seeing you soon.
